The Ten4Tec 2L Technician Utility Organizer is a well-made rugged case that is meant to be used in conjunction with Ten4Tec Technician's Backpack, however it can still be used as a stand-alone item. The fabric used for the utility organizer is made of heavy-duty Cordura nylon, with water-resistant inner lining, and 3 Velcro strips that allow you to attach the organizer to the Technician's Backpack, or other Velcro items. This 2 litre utility organizer has 2 heavy-duty zippers that slide with ease. The opening of the organizer is very large, easily allowing you to place bulky items inside, there is also a window on the front of the organizer that lets you view the contents inside.
I originally got this organizer to keep my video recording kit, and the Ten4Tec organizer is able to fit all my items, however there is a lack of small compartments inside the organizer, and all my items felt scattered inside the pouch; this made it difficult to fetch small items quickly. I also got the idea to use this organizer as a travel case for my android video game console, but unfortunately, I was not able to fit my second controller inside.
I know this product is designed for skilled workers in the field but even for general use I can appreciate the build quality. It's compact and durable and great for organizing small essentials. It's great to have the clear window to quickly see what's in this pouch without having to open it up (especially when you will have several). There's a lot of attachment options to help keep everything together. It's quite nice.
This pouch, is part of a larger system. there are other bags/pouches for this system.
this is the 2L size, there are other sizes and configuations for a medic/SAR kit.
This is designed for use with the pack, but is a great stand alone bag.
this is not a hold all bag, it's meant to be one of many bags, not a full "kit" inside this bag. no reason why this can't be a small hold all kit pouch but it was part of a bigger system and it does it's job perfectly for the system.
very well made, high quality material, the PVC window makes it easy to see the content, the mess net holds in place. the zipper are top quality.
no issues. strong gear make for rough environments. (I have the back pack and other pouches and the quality is top tear)
Overall, this pouch seems relatively well built, but I have two problems with it. First, the description. The way that this product is described seems to imply that contains many different ways to organize what you put it it. However, it is just one big pocket with mesh at the front. I mean, I would expect at the very least two pockets before you call something ULTIMATE TECHNICIAN ORGANIZATION. They should include more photos so that people know what they are getting. And yes, I realise that this is an accessory intended to be used in their specific backpack which I do not have. That being said, my biggest issue with this pouch is the price. It is currently listed at $40 CAD. Now, if it had internal divider pockets, more mesh, some bungee loops and was truly a good way to organise small tools, at this level of quality, $40 would be a bit more reasonable. But for is essentially a MOLLE single pocket bag, it seems a bit steep.
In regards to quality, the sewing seems to be done well, though I'm certainly no expert, but I can't see any obvious signs of issues there. The materials all feel nice and of good quality. The box is thinly padded (about half of what you'd get in a camera bag's padding) on the back and the sides with the front being simply fabric with the plastic window. The zippers are YKK, which is great and what you want. If you don't know anything about zippers, YKK is what you want. Period. The top handle seems to be very strong (I gave it several strong tugs and it held strong, no pops or tears) and the MOLLE webbing seems very strong and durable as well and is properly spaced and fits my other MOLLE gear without issue. All of the hook and loop material is attached very securely and the stitching is very close to the edges so there is little to no material left to snag on anything or pull up awkwardly. The single mesh pocket, again, seems very strong and robust and is elasticated on top. The plastic window seems reasonably ductile and isn't the terrible hard plastic one would see on much cheaper items. It will probably get scratched up with use, but I don't see it cracking unless perhaps it is UV damaged or something, but I'm speculating here.
Overall, it's a single pocket MOLLE/Hook and loop square pouch. But it seem to be a well made pouch with quality materials. If you happen to be looking for a square pouch with these exact dimensions and a single pocket for your use case, this just might be your thing.
I struggled a bit, trying to write a good review for this product. Do you look at the product as part of a bigger system - which this is, or do you look at it as an individual, stand-along piece. As the pouch is being sold separately, I decided to do just that - rate the bag as an individual item and not part of a complete "system".
First off, the bag is very well made. Really well made! For example, five sides (sides, top, bottom and back) are all padded with a thin, but dense foam material. All seams and stitching is on the inside, so no threads working themselves loose and presenting a problem on the exterior. A Velcro strip on the bottom (Loops) and two strips running down the back (Hooks) along with 12 MOLLE supports. Two zippers run around the pouch and can meet anywhere you like. Both have fabric pulls, rather than small metal ones. The exterior is Cordura - a fabric I have looked for in my professional camera bags for years.
The front panel is a clear plastic design, but not just any plastic. It is a heavy duty vinyl kind, that should hold up far more than those thin, hard plastic ones. Another quality check for Ten4Tec - the manufacturing company.
The interior of the pouch is just one large opening, with a mesh material covering about half of the opening. As you open up the pouch, that mesh covering just might keep the contents in place.
There is a small top handle, but it's too small to get my hand through. At best, it's three fingers - two are even a better fit.
So, what's do you do with this well made bag? That's a good question. It's a great bag, looking for something to carry. With the padding and the clear front panel, I might be inclined to put a couple of meter in there. As a photographer, it would do well with a light meter and colour meter, some extra batteries, and perhaps a lens cleaning kit. But I already have places for that in a camera bag I have...
However, if you are fortunate enough to have the Ten4Tec Ultimate Technician Organization Pack, then this makes perfect sense. That large Pack takes this and others like it, into some internal areas where can have poachers like this, combined with others. I have looked at this Pack and it is a terrific piece of gear. It is also expensive.
Ultimately, I have always felt you get what you pay for. There is no doubt, this 2L TecPouch is an extremely well made product. It is made to work with the Technicians Pack. As a stand alone bag, for the price, you may be able to find something that holds your gears better, over a single space one.
Bottom Line - High quality. Single space only.
